Our property here, the Bawali Baganbari is a treat to the eyes itself. Spread across 14 bighas, the place welcomes with an abundance of greenery. The gardens and fields are covered with more than three hundred types of plants, which is the home of resident songbirds. Only at hours distance from the city of joy, you will find a pollution-free set-up in this place. Come here, to unwind in the comfortable rooms and try the delectable dishes. Amidst the rural set-up, you can take a gander across the tree-lined roads to enjoy the beauty of nature to the fullest extent.

Outdoor Activity

Local experience: The property stays true to its name as it has a huge garden surrounding it. You can spend hours in here, especially in the winter. It is a perfect spot for a picnic with friends and family. Also, you can go for a walk in the surrounding village in the early morning or the late afternoon. The easy and calm lifestyle here will amaze you. While you are at it, do check out the nursery. It has thousands of indoor and flowering plants which you can buy too.

Fishing: Number of fishes play in the two well-maintained ponds inside the property. You can enjoy fishing with all the equipment here. Also, you can boat in the ponds.

Birding: The place has a deep treeline surrounding it. This is the home of a number of songbirds. In winter, you can see migratory birds in the locality too.

Nearby Attractions

Achipur: This is the place where one of the oldest sugar mills in India was set up. A Chinese businessman Tong Achew, received the land from Governor-General Warren Hastings in 1770s. The present Chinese population in India has its forefathers who were related to the factory in some way. You can see the tomb of Tong Achew, and a Chinese temple built by him in 1718 here.

Barood Ghar: As the name means, the Gunpowder warehouse is on the banks of River Ganges. During the colonial time, ships to Kolkata from Bay of Bengal that had gunpowder on board had to deposit their stock in here. This was done to prevent any attack from water to the capital. While returning, they were allowed to pick it up again.

Budge budge: At a small distance from here, the history of the place dates back to 1756. There was a fort in here which was closed in 1793. Another major historical event here was the homecoming of Swami Vivekananda. After his famous Chicago speech in 1897, he landed in the Budge Budge ferry ghat from the ship, to board a train to Kolkata. Also, it is related to the Komagata Maru movement, a major chapter in the Indian freedom movement.

Bawali Rajbari: This is a 300-year old zamindar palace. The place was built in the early 17th century, by a descendant of Basudeb Ray who was an official in the court of Emperor Akbar. They had close trade with the British Empire too. They built a number of terracotta temples in the village and the others by it. Now it is spread over three acres, decorated with ponds and gardens. It functions as a heritage hotel now too.

How to Reach

Rail: The nearest rail station is Budge Budge. From there it is nearly 10 km away, which takes 25 minutes to reach by car.

Air: The nearest airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata. 50 km away and takes a car 2 hours to reach the place.

Road: From Kolkata, the property is approximately 35 km away, and it takes around 1 hour 40 minutes to reach by Budge Budge trunk road.

Best Time to Visit Bawali

It is a good place to visit any time of the year, on weekend. If you are visiting with a big group, the winter months of November to February is perfect. You will enjoy outdoor gardens with friends and family. While you cannot do that in the monsoon, the drenched village has a separate level of verdure beauty.

    Good property, repeat of food has been observed. Fact is that we have severed same food in the dinner which was served in lunch. Professional cooks are not available.

  2. Very good for one day trip in winter and good for day out trip in monsoon. Food and staffs are very good.
