Darjeeling, the most famous hill station of West Bengal is approximately 500 km away from Chennai, Gateway of South India and the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. From the city on the Bay of Bengal, there are several ways to reach the hills in Bengal, which are as follows:<\/p>\n

Chennai to Darjeeling: Through Air<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is no airport in proper Darjeeling. The nearest airport is in Bagdogra (Airport code: IXB), which is 67.5 km from Darjeeling, and it takes around 3 hours to reach by car from the airport. There are a number of flights that connect Bagdogra to Chennai, as it received the status of a major airport recently.<\/p>\n

The average fare ranges between INR 4900 to INR 6500 per person, and a direct flight takes 2 hour and 20 minutes to reach the airport. For an approximate idea of the fare and timing, the important flight details are given below, after 3 months from the date of booking.<\/p>\n

Chennai to Darjeeling: Through Train<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There is no major rail-station in Darjeeling with direct rail connectivity with Chennai.<\/p>\n

However, you can take a train to New Jalpaiguri, and then take a car to reach Darjeeling in 4-5 hours. If you want a very unique experience and have time, go in the Darjeeling-Himalayan railway that is the UNESCO-World heritage site from New Jalpaiguri Jn. to Darjeeling (Starts at 08:30 from NJP station and reached Darjeeling at 15:35 every day.)<\/p>\n

Chennai to Darjeeling: Through Road<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Chennai and Darjeeling are separated by a huge distance on land. However, if you plan for a really long road trip, you can take a car which is really comfortable and embark upon this tour. There are two roads for this. Route 1 goes by Telangana, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and then enters West Bengal and it covers 2675 km which takes 51 hours to cover by car. You can stay in Hyderabad, Nagpur, Ranchi and then in Jalpaiguri before starting on the hills.<\/p>\n

Route 2 goes along the coast, and it goes by Andhra Pradesh, Odisha before entering West Bengal, covering a road distance of 2258 km and 44 hours. This is the more scenic route with stops in Visakhapatnam, Puri, Kolkata and then Jalpaiguri.<\/p>\n
