Rishop – a quaint little village located in the reposeful Kalimpong district of West Bengal. This serene Lepcha hamlet is only 28kms to the East of Kalimpong, situated at an altitude of 8500ft – is an intrinsic part of the worldwide famous Neora Valley. Rishop is still quite unknown amongst tourists and therefore continues to contain the virgin charm of the evergreen trees. The view of the majestic Kanchenjunga and the other snow-covered peaks of the Himalayan Range are breathtakingly beautiful.

Outdoor Activities and Nearby Attractions
Since most part of Rishop is still undiscovered, trekking along the mountainous roads will be the best option for its exploration.
Tiffindara : A popular viewpoint for watching sunrise and sunset. It is an uphill trek of 1.5kms from Rishop through the mountain trails in the forest.
Shiva Buddha Temple : Walking down the stairs of this temple, you will witness idols of Buddha and Shiva mounted side by side.
Jorepokhri : A twin lake which you will find while trekking down the Neora Valley Forest.
Kolakaham : Another quaint village located 4kms from the Neora Valley. Here you will witness the gushing Changey Waterfall.
Lava and Lolegaon : Two beautiful small Lepcha villages located at a distance of 11 and 15kms respectively from Rishop.
Pedong : Pedong is another village which is an hour drive from Rishop, popularly known for the Damsang Fort which has witnessed the war between the Lepchas and the Bhutias.
Best Time to Visit
Visiting Rishop during summers will be a good idea as the weather during this time is cool and pleasant. Be sure to experience a clear view of the Kanchenjunga and the other snow-clad peaks. Winters are chilly and temperatures can drop to a minimum of 0degrees Celsius. It is best to avoid the mountains in the rainy season.
How to Reach
Rail : Rishop is located at a distance of 110kms via Kalimpong from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station. It takes a travel time of almost 4 hours.
Air : If you choose to travel by air, the nearest airport is Bagdogra. From Bagdogra, the distance is almost 120kms. In general, the distance of Rishop from Kalimpong is 28kms.
However, the road to Rishop is quite bumpy and therefore a big vehicle like Jeep will be ideal.
The sleepy mountainous hamlet of Rishop with it untouched wilderness will fill up your senses with peace, calm and tranquillity and give you the heavenly solace your heart has been longing for.
