02. Kalimpong
A quaint hill station in the Indian state of West Bengal. In the early days, it was used as a gateway for trade between Tibet and India, before China annexed Tibet and the subsequent Sino Indian War. As the Brits came, the temperate climate prompted them to develop this tiny hamlet as alternate to Darjeeling, as to escape the scorching summer of the plains.
Slowly trade too brought more people into this hamlet, and with the coming of the Scottish Missionaries, education followed. One of its examples is Dr. Graham’s Home.
Located at an average elevation of 1250 m (4101ft). The official language is Nepali. The town centre is on a ridge connecting two hills, Deolo Hill and Durpin Hill. River Teesta flows in the valley below and separated Kalimpong from the state of Sikkim. Mt Kanchenjunga at 8586m (28,169ft)is the world’s third tallest peak and is clearly visible from Kalimpong.

03. Kurseong
A pretty hill station near Kolkata in the subdivision town of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. The original people of Kurseong were Lepchas, who named it so because every spring it came alive and bright with Kurseong -Rip orchids. This town was once part of the Kingdom of Sikkim before the British came to India.
It’s cool and dry climate made it a favourite of the sahibs, escaping the scorching heat of the plains during summer. Located at an altitude of 1458 mt(4783 ft) Kurseong is 32 km from Darjeeling with a pleasant climate throughout the year.
It’s beautiful vistas, picturesque scenery and tracks of the Darjeeling Toy Train running the length of the town give it a romantic setup and adds to its fame.
Kurseong is the seat of several temples such as Ambootia Shiva Temple, Buddhist Gompa, Grotto and Catholic Church in St Mary Hill. 04. Lava
A small hamlet, situated 34 km east of the town of Kalimpong. It sits at an altitude of 7016ft (2138m).One of the few places to receive snow in winter. Lava is the entry point to the Neora Valley National Park from Kalimpong. Tropical deciduous vegetation to alpine trees of fir, prune, birch give it a picturesque setting. Himalayan black bear and barking deer roam its forests. Proximity to Neora Valley is its claim to fame, and also adding to its grandeur are beautiful views of Jelep La and Reche La passes and yes, found in abundance during Monsoons.

This is a quite popular hill station near Kolkata. Lolegaon is a small Lepcha village, with a population of only 5000 inhabitants. Situated in the extreme end of a Himalayan Range. Fagu is a newfound, offbeat destination in Dooars region. Located 9 km from Lava on the way to Gorubathan. Perched at an altitude of 6200 ft. This is a beautiful place, serene and surreal. 07. Sittong
Home to the Lepcha tribes split by a stream named Khola. A small dreamlike village in the Kurseong division of Darjeeling district. It is not one village but a cluster of villages in one large area locally known as Sittong Khasmahal. Located at a height of 4000 feet above sea level. It is the epitome of beauty and peace.
Sittong is famous among tourists as it is the heart of the orange growing countryside of Darjeeling. Sittong Church, Jogighat in lower Sittong, a bridge over Riyang River. 08. Takdah
A small settlement located in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India. Takdah means always covered in fog or as the colloquial name Tukdah, in Lepcha means Mist or Fog. This was a British military cantonment, the era of the Raj can be witnessed in the old buildings. Takdah is located at an altitude of about 4000 ft and close to Darjeeling.
This hamlet is famous for its orchids. Orchid Center, is a favourite among tourists, it is being revived to bring fame to Takdah.
Tea Estates, such as Rangli Rangliot, Giele, Teesta Valley are some tea Estates worth a visit. The main junction is Dara dokan, a weekly market on Thursday’s is a worthy visit. A small Hamlet in Darjeeling district. Tinchuley means Three Ovens or teen chullah. The name came by because of the three permanent hilltops that surround the place which from far looks like an oven or chullah. Located at an altitude of 5800 ft,3 km from Takdah and faces the Kalimpong hills.
Tinchuley is now famous for WWF(World Wide Federation) initiative of assisting 17 families to develop a model organic village. The village practices modern farming and floriculture methods.Vermiculture and other organic projects.

Delo hill is one of the two hills that the town of Kalimpong stands between and is located to the North East of the town. The hill is the highest point of Kalimpong town with a height reaching up to 1,704 mt above sea level.

12. Rishop
A small hill station in Kalimpong district of the state of West Bengal. In the year 1998, Rishop started developing as a tourist destination. Several myths and legends are associated with the name of Rishop, Ri stands for mountain peaks and Shop means age-old trees in Tibetan Rishop is located at 27.03N & 88.18E. The average elevation is 2591mt (8500 ft). It is very close to Lava, about 4 KM uphill.
Famous for its majestic views of Kanchenjunga range. Local Sherpas and Lepchas have built small cottages as accommodation for tourists, which are beautiful. Besides the beautiful sights and views, one can see Tiffindara, a Sunrise viewing spot which is 1km from Neora Valley.

13. Mirik
Mirik is a tourist spot in the hills of Darjeeling. The name Mirik comes from the Lepcha words Mir Yok, meaning” place burnt by fire” Mirik bazaar began as a community centre of the region where people from surrounding village and tea gardens came to trade. The present lake area was marshland, until 1974 when work began to develop it as a tourist spot.
Average elevation is 1,495m (4,905ft). The highest peak is the Biker Monastery 1,768m (5,801ft).
The centre of attraction here is the beautiful Sumendu Lake, surrounded by a garden named Savitri Pushpaudan on one side and Pine trees on the other linked together is an arching footbridge called Indreni Phool. A 3.5 km long road encircles the lake and is used for walks with the view of Kanchenjunga on the far horizon.
Sumendu River is the heart of Mirik, with boating options on lovely Shikaras. Rameetay Dara viewpoint, Bokar Monastery, Rai Dhap a picnic spot, Tea Gardens such as Thurbo, Soureni, are worth a visit.
